In an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera, Araghchi said communication channels with the United States have remained open during the current unrest.

He emphasized that his nation was “prepared for all options,” asserting that Iran now has “vast and extensive military preparedness” compared with the 12-day war in 2025.

Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump said he was considering “strong options” for Iran, including possible military intervention, in response to its leaders’ alleged crackdown on protests.

Trump said a meeting with Tehran was being organized to discuss its nuclear program, “but we may have to act because of what is happening before the meeting.”

“If Washington wants to test the military option it has tested before, we are prepared for it,” Araghchi said, warning the United States to choose the “smart option” of dialogue. He also warned about “those who try to drag Washington into war to serve the interests of Israel.”

Araghchi referred to the rising death toll, reiterating previous statements that terrorist elements had “infiltrated the crowd of protesters and attacked security forces and protesters.”

In the past two weeks, Iran has blamed Israel and the United States for instigating unrest in the country. According to state media reports, more than 100 security personnel were recently killed.
